My Top 10 Favourite Vegan Foods In 2017

My Top 10 Favourite Vegan Foods In 2017

As 2017 draws to a close, I am sharing with you My Top 10 Favourite Vegan Foods of the year. Whether found in the UK, whilst on holiday or at a Vegan market, here are 10 vegan foods you will wish you had tried!

10. Vegan Maple Glazed Doughnut

Eating Vegan In London: Hackney Downs Vegan Market

At the Hackney Downs Market my Vegan Krispy-Kreme dreams came true when I stumbled across the Dough Society’s Maple Glazed Brioche doughnut. If you love consuming all of your calories in one bite and still have room for more, this could be for you. They are heavenly with a crispy ‘fried’ outer, moist centre and sickly sweet glaze.

9. Vegan Cinnamon Swirl

Copenhagen’s Naturbageriet sold the most delicious fresh Vegan cinnamon swirl’s. Sticky and gooey with a crispy outer, I could have eaten these for days. There really is nothing like a freshly baked pastry straight outta the oven.

8. Happy Maki Sushi Roll

This sushi roll was sourced at this year’s London Vegfest from the Brighton based Happy Maki and the flavours blew me away. It’s an upgrade on your typical avocado maki with added roasted sweet potato, crispy ‘chicken’ chunks, veg, sesame seeds and teriyaki sauce. If only I was brave enough to try and recreate it!

7. Vegan Wagon Wheel

The wagon wheel shaped, marshmallow stuffed, jam filled void in my life was finally satisfied this year. Ananda’s Gourmet Round Ups were absolutely delicious in their variety of flavours with the firm favourite being the Caramel Crisp.

6. Tesco Finest Festive Sandwich

The winning Vegan Christmas sandwich award this year goes to the Tesco Finest Bubble & Squeak roll. It was bursting full of festive flavours with a spiced red cabbage sauce, crispy coconut ‘bacon’ flakes and lashings of vegan mayo. How I wish these would be around all year.

5. Vegan Pulled Chicken

Linda McCartney‘s created another banger with the Vegetarian (vegan-friendly) Pulled Chicken. What a way to switch up fajita night by seasoning this soya-based meat alternative and throwing it into a toasted wrap!

4. Vegan Big Mac At The Den At 23

If you find yourself craving a Big Mac or McChicken sandwich, The Den At 23 hold the answer. Their Vegan take on the Maccer’s best sellers brings together lashings of creamy sauce, crispy patties and fresh salad. The Big Mac burger sauce could have won awards – it was delicious!

3. Vegan Hot Dog

We couldn’t go to Copenhagen and not visit their award winning food stall, Dop. They sold a vegan version of their traditional sausage made from delicious tofu and topped it off with crispy onion flakes, mustard and ketchup. The soft grainy roll and sliced gherkins completed the set up and it was fantastic.

2. Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream

Ben & Jerry’s lover or not, you haven’t lived if you haven’t tried their new Non-Dairy range. The rich vanilla ice cream is layered with Peanut Butter swirls that grip the chunks of Oreo- style cookies making this the naughtiest treat yet.

1. One Planet Pizza

My favourite discovery this year was the wonderful One Planet Pizza. They are the first UK business to create frozen vegan pizzas that are owned entirely by their community. Their Mediterranean Roasted Vegetable pizza was delicious – oozing cheese, flavoursome vegetables and the crispiest crust – heavenly.

There we have it folks, there are my Top 10 Favourite Vegan Foods of 2017!

I am now off to eat a salad or three.

Have you tried any of these?

I’m so glad I’m reading this while eating, otherwise I’d be chewing my own arm by the end of it. Did you say Maple Glazed Donut?! I had one at Tim Hortons in Canada, back before I was vegan, and sometimes I find myself thinking about them. I think Hackney is too far for me to get one but surely there must be a recipe? There’s a place in Edinburgh called The Herbivore Kitchen and they do incredible vegan pumpkin pancakes. Never tried anything with pumpkin in it before, but they’re so delicious and I need to find a recipe for them.
