It’s been a little over a week since Pret A Manger launched their first Very Merry Christmas vegan sandwich and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a slice to review. Somehow I managed to purchase the sarnie, get it home and photograph it before tucking in to this festive delight.
Each year Pret tingle our tastebuds with a new and improved recipe. Last year they released their first vegan Christmas baguette packed full of roasted carrot, parsnip puree, crispy onion pieces and toasted pistachios. It was the best vegan baguette I have ever eaten and to this day I still recall the concoction of perfect flavours and satisfying crunch it embodied. This year they have ditched the baguette and opted for the less dense granary bread with a new combo of flavours you just have to try.
What’s In The Christmas Vegan Sandwich?
This year’s festive sandwich is more Christmassy than ever. The main ingredient is the vegan stuffing made from caramelised pecans and crispy onions pieces that pop in your mouth! Alongside are chunky grilled carrots, fresh rocket or spinach topped with a port, orange and cranberry sauce. If this isn’t Christmas in a sandwich, I don’t know what is! The stuffing is indefinitely the shop stopper with the crispy onions pieces at the forefront of the joy. The cranberry sauce brings the festive vibes to life and the grilled carrot will transport you to sitting around the table on Christmas day tucking into your roast.
What Does It Cost?
This little number is priced at £3.50 and 50p of that is donated to the Pret Foundation Trust, their charity that helps the homeless by redistributing unsold food every night across cities. Why not try the sandwich twinned with their new Mince Pie flavoured syrup; a perfect addition to your soya or coconut flat white!
